Enyeama Set To Change History
Come Dec.3 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy (Villeneuve d'Ascq)the history of the French Ligue 1 is set to undergo some modification, as Nigeria's goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama prepares to enter the history boOks as the goalkeeper with the longest number of minutes under his belt without conceding in the French top flight.
This will only be possible if he keeps a clean sheet in the first four minutes of Lille’s next league game against Olympique Marseille.
Enyeama has been superlative this season with eight clean sheets, his latest on Saturday as Lille beat Valenciennes 1-0 at the Stade du Hainaut to help Lille climb to second position on the table on matchday 15.
PSG’s Italian goalkeeper, Salvatore Sirigu currently holds the record having gone 948 minutes without conceding in Ligue 1 between November 17, 2012 and February 8, 2013.
However, the record looks set to be broken with Enyeama just four minutes shy of Sirigu's record with a total of 945 minutes without conceeding a goal in the French Ligue 1 and Lille coach Rene Girard, hopes Enyeama's form becomes a collective reality for the entire team.
"Ten consecutive matches without conceding a goal? I think it has never happened. We must keep the spirit that animates this group, until we meet this collectively.” he said.
